Looking at the forecast each day has not always been possible since we don't always have internet access.  But when we can we always look at the wind speed and the direction.  In preparing for today's ride we saw we were going to have strong crosswinds as we headed south to Circle, so we wanted to get an early start to get as far as we could before they got too strong.  We left at 7:00 and the winds really didn't affect us until we were about 35 miles down the road at 10:30.  We also had a very hilly route to Circle.  Once the winds did get strong we had to fight them to stay out of the lane of traffic.  Fortunately traffic was very light on Hwy 13.

About half way to Circle we thought it sure would be fun to take advantage of this wind which was possible because once we got to Circle we turned left and headed east.  This means we had a very strong tailwind.  We arrived in Circle at 12:30 and at 1:30 we were done with lunch and ready to ride.  This meant riding another 50 miles since there was no camping or any kind of lodging until Glendive.  So off we went to Glendive and enjoyed an amazingly strong tailwind on a pretty much flat road.  The 53 miles to Circle took us 5.5 hours.  The 50 miles to Glendive took us 2.5 hours with a consistent speed of over 25 mph much of the way.

Tonight we are camping in a city park in Glendive and are able to use the showers at the pool in the park.  About 8:00 another bicyclist arrived at the park.

Amity is riding from Seattle to New York where she is visiting family.  She is a city bus driver in Seattle where she has saved up enough vacation time to be able to take this trip.  She is also a Christian seminary student and plans to be a hospital or prison chaplain.

Over the last few days we've seen some sculptures of dinosaurs on the landscape.  There are a number of dinosaur museums across the plains of Montana because there have been many dinosaur fossils found on the plains of Montana.

Clear skies to start the day.

Now that's a wide load.  We're waiting for oncoming traffic to pass because one lane is closed for construction.

More clear sky
