Day 27: To Glasgow, MT

Mon., Jun 19, 2017
Stats:  Today - 42 miles; 1283 miles to date
Elevation climbed:  384 ft;  41,954 feet to date
Temp. Low: upper 50's High: upper 70's
Mix of sun and clouds, 10-15 mph tailwind

After three days of riding at least 75 miles a day, it felt good to sleep in this morning.  The reason we were able to get so many miles in was because of the strong west wind, lower temperatures (60's and low 70's), and cloudy afternoons.

With three full days of riding, we took it a little easier today with only 42 miles.  The timing was good as the temperatures were in the low 80's, the wind was minimal and the sun was bright.  We also have to adjust our schedule to stay in places where we can find camping/lodging.

This morning, as we headed out of Saco the unusual onslaught of mosquitoes continued while riding and especially when we stopped.  This continued for about seven miles.  What we learned is that the farmers in the area dig ditches to hold rain water that they pump out to irrigate their land.  The standing water, thus, becomes a breeding place for mosquitoes.  This is commonly known as flood irrigation.  When we asked a couple of people about this they just told us, "that's Saco."

Because we only rode 42 miles today, we got to our destination of Glasgow by 1:00.  After lunch and ice cream at Dairy Queen, we headed for The Cottonwood Inn and Suites right on Hwy 2.  However, we did not rent a room.  They also have a small campground in the back.  So we paid $20.00 for the campsite and had full availability of their hotel amenities.  For us it meant using their swimming pool, laundry room (we paid for the coin laundry) and a quiet conference room to work on our blog, etc...
