Day 19: To Glacier Meadow RV Park, eleven miles past Essex, MT

Sun, Jun 11, 2017
Stats:  Today - 47 miles; 938 miles to date
Elevation climbed: 2359 ft; 37,862 feet to date
Temp. Low: low 40's High: upper 60's
  Sunny, light tailwind

Since we couldn't take Going To The Sun Road through Glacier National Park, we had to leave the Park in order to take Hwy 2 around the south side of the Park.

Today we rode along the Flathead River toward Marias Pass.  The climb had a minimal slope and we were aided by a 5-10 mph tailwind.

For lunch we stopped at Izaak Walton restaurant.  The restaurant had a train theme, highlighting the building it was housed in (an old railroad station) and the Great Northern Railroad that still runs along the tracks outside the building.  There was also overnight lodging in old cabooses and engines that have been renovated into cabins.
